FAQ

Everything you need to know before you buy.

What's the difference between the licenses?
Basic gets you a tagged MP3 to test the vibe. Premium delivers untagged MP3 + WAV with streaming and distribution rights. Unlimited adds the track stems plus unlimited streams and sales. Exclusive means the beat comes off the store after purchase and you own the master, though the publishing split stays 50/50.
What does "tagged" mean?
A tagged file has a voice/sound tag layered over the beat to prevent it from being used commercially. Premium and above are untagged and clean for release.
How fast do I get my files?
Instantly. As soon as your purchase clears in the player, your download is delivered automatically — no waiting around.
Can I release the song on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube?
Yes — Premium and above include streaming and distribution rights. Check each license's terms for stream and sales limits; Unlimited and Exclusive remove the caps entirely.
When should I go Exclusive vs. Custom?
Go Exclusive when you love a beat that already exists and want it to be yours alone. Go Custom when you want something built from scratch around your exact sound and vision.
What's your refund policy?
Because beats are delivered as instant digital downloads, all sales are final. Preview thoroughly before purchasing — and reach out on the contact page if you have any questions first.
What do you mean by "downloads allowed"?
"Downloads allowed" refers to how many copies you can sell of your finished song. Basic allows 2,000 paid sales, Premium allows 3,000, and Unlimited allows unlimited. This includes digital downloads (iTunes, Bandcamp) and physical copies (CDs, vinyl). Free downloads don't count — you can give away as many copies as you want. Streams are counted separately and don't affect the download limit.
What's the difference between "downloads" and "streams"?
Downloads: When someone buys your song (on iTunes, Bandcamp, etc). Basic/Premium have limits; Unlimited is uncapped. Streams: When someone listens on Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, etc. Basic and Premium allow 500K monetized streams; Unlimited and Exclusive are uncapped. These are completely separate limits — hitting your download cap doesn't affect streams, and vice versa.
What does "50% publishing rights" mean?
Publishing rights control who gets paid when your song is streamed, broadcast, or performed publicly. Under all non-exclusive licenses, you own 50% and I own 50%. This means if your song gets 1 million Spotify streams, both of us get paid proportional to our share. When you register with your PRO (ASCAP, BMI, etc.), you identify my share so royalties split correctly. Exclusive works the same way on publishing — you own the master recording outright, but the composition stays with me and the writer's split remains 50/50. Exclusive buys you sole use of the beat, not the songwriting credit.
What if I sell more copies than my license allows?
Each license has a specific cap on paid sales. If you exceed it, you're in breach of the contract and liable for damages. It's your responsibility to track sales and stay within your limit. If you think you'll exceed a license tier, upgrade to the next tier. Unlimited removes all caps, so there's no limit to worry about.
Can I use the beat in a music video or film?
Yes. Every license includes one monetized music video, up to five minutes long (or the length of your song, whichever is shorter). That's one video per license across all tiers, including Unlimited — the unlimited part refers to sales and streams, not videos. Need more than one video? Reach out and I'll sort out a sync license. All licenses let you perform the song publicly at live shows and on streaming; radio is capped at 2 stations on Basic and Premium, and uncapped on Unlimited and Exclusive. You cannot use the beat in commercials, TV shows, or films without an additional sync license.
How long does my license last?
Non-exclusive licenses (Basic, Premium, Unlimited) last for 10 years from the date of purchase. Exclusive licenses grant perpetual, worldwide rights — you own it forever with no expiration. After a non-exclusive license expires, the rights granted under it end — you would need to renew or upgrade to keep selling or distributing the song. Reach out before your term is up and I'll sort it out with you.
Can you take the license back?
On the non-exclusive licenses (Basic, Premium, Unlimited) the contract gives me a buy-back option: within three years of purchase I can end the license by paying you back 200% of what you paid. If that ever happened you'd need to pull the song from distribution. In practice this exists so a beat can be sold exclusively later — I'm telling you because it's in the agreement you sign, not because I plan to use it. Exclusive licenses have no buy-back.
Do I need to credit you as the producer?
Yes. All licenses require you to credit me as "Produced by DJ Z-Rex" on album artwork, streaming metadata, music videos, and social media posts. This helps with brand visibility and is a contractual requirement. Failure to provide credit is a breach of the license agreement.
What's the difference between "exclusive" and "non-exclusive"?
Non-exclusive: I can sell the same beat to other artists (you're not the only one with it). Basic/Premium/Unlimited are non-exclusive. Exclusive: Once you buy it, the beat comes off my store and I stop licensing it. You own the master. One thing to know up front: any non-exclusive licenses I sold before your purchase stay valid — I can't revoke those. Exclusive is best if you want the beat to be yours going forward and are planning a major label or mainstream release.
Which license should I pick?
Basic ($24.99): Testing a beat before committing to a project. Premium ($49.99): Independent artist planning 1-3 releases, building a catalog. Unlimited ($399.99): Prolific artists, multiple projects, want no sales/stream caps. Exclusive ($999.99): Serious label deals, mainstream release, want full ownership and uniqueness. When in doubt, Premium is the standard choice for most artists.
